sleepwalking and hoonnnnnnnnkkkkkk!

In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “Whoa!.”

I’ve always been a sleep walker.. If I am disturbed/tired/anxious, I walk around in my sleep. It used to happen a lot when I was a kid.. Not so much these days.. Maybe once a month..

This particular incident happened when I was about 22 years old. I was at my cousin’s place, just outside of Pine, India. It was summer, maybe sometime in late May/Early June. The monsoon hadn’t arrived yet and it was terribly hot. I couldn’t sleep inside the apartment and decided to sleep on the terrace, under the stars..

My cousin is a pediatrician and his clinic was just across a busy street. His juniors used to work the night shift and I was friends with them.

Sometime around midnight, in my sleep, I dreamt that the interns are heading out for a picnic. I wanted to go to so I went there to join them..except, I was really going there in my sleep.. I claimed down the stairs .. Walked down 4 floors.. Came to the road.. And I was about to cross the road when I heard a loud horn from a truck that was speeding towards me..

I woke up but couldn’t see because of the headlights ( deer in the headlights).. I froze.. The truck braked really hard and stopped maybe a foot away from me.. The truck driver hurled a few abuses..

I had my whoa! moment..I got out of his way.. The stream of cuss words continued.. I said to myself.. what the eff is wrong with you.. But couldn’t do anything.. Somnambulism is a disease and needs treatment!

I see and hear you, Mr. Bin Laden!

In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “Fly on the Wall.”

If I can think of one event, that had the most impact on the world as we know it, in the new millennium, it would be the attacks of September 11th, 2001.

That event had some major impacts on the international relations, the airline industry, our sense of security when we fly, the way we look at each other.

How nice would it be if the event did not sure occur at all? How would that have happened?

If I were a fly on the wall of the cave/room where Mr. bin Laden heard and approved the 9/11 plot, I would have alerted the authorities and prevented the event.

I would have let the world know about who all were in, on the conspiracy.

But most importantly, I would have saved thousands of lives..on 9/11 and in the wars that followed!

Herndon, VA!

In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “We Built This City.”

A quiet little town, a stones throw away from the capital.. Yet outside the beltway buzz.. A town with parks and trails, good schools and churches.. A town with variety of ethnic experiences.. But most importantly, a safe place to live..

I love Herndon, VA!

Dont let the calm fool you.. There is a raging beast underneath the surface!

India’s Daughter!

In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “A House Divided.”

A BBC documentary filmmaker made a documentary about thethe December  2012 rape and murder of an Indian Girl in Delhi. The audacity of the rapists and the sheer brutality had shook the entire nation, if not the world.

The documentary was scheduled to release last week but the Government of India banned the documentary. The government cited violations of the clauses and conditions, under which the filmmaker was permitted to interview the victim’s parents, the rapists, the rapists families and the police authorities. The Government also says that a documentary about a sensitive subject as this one may provocate the masses and disturb the law and order situation.

Supporters of the documentary say watching the documentary is a necessary step in confronting the problem of women’s rights in India. Banning the documentary is a step in sweeping the ugliness under the rug in attempts of protecting the status quo. They highlight the need to revisit ideas about patriarchy and the ethnocentrism in the male dominated Indian culture, if India has any plans of being a truly global force.

Love is consensus!

In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “I Want to Know What Love Is.”

In one word, love is consensus.. Its a mutual decision between two individuals ( humans, animals) to coexist, an implicit agreement to respect each other’s space, their individuality, while working towards a common objective. That objective maybe peaceful coexistence/nurturing and caring and working to create something new, that is an extension of themselves!
